SWEET SANCTUARY
Organic Gardener

Author: Peter Cundall
Here in this article Peter Cundall reflects on the effects of war and the healing power of gardening.
He arrive back here in Australia in 1952 after spending the previous year as a frontline, infantry soldier in the Korean war, and like many other soldier he was confused and bewildred.
As a sole survivor of four close mates who was sent to Korea he mentioned that the stench og death still lurks in his nostrils.
His return back sees Peter Cundall walking thought st Kilder road and wondered into a virtually deserted Royal Botenic Gardens. Strolling among the trees, roses and shrubs brought an immediet feeling of relief. He would spend most day there sometimes sitting on the grass for hours, gazing at plants, smelling the fragrance of the flowers and foliagesor half dozing and absorbing the quiet serenity of the garden.
I am a big fan of Peter Cundall and having read this article gives me the reason to want to get out side and give the dying shrubs or grass a face lift. To know also that gardening gives him the healing power of post dramatic war, say's that in todays fast growing world which contribute to stress and depression, people should be more out door enjoying and watching the flowers, trees and birds that are among us.

Historically Prison Library services in south Australia have relied on donated books from well meaning of the public and othr benefactors. As a result, most of them are largely full of unwanted, outdated and in apprriate resources.
The correctional officer have highlighted that prison library collections are critical to help and support literacy and numeracy, and in enabling prisoners to access meaningful leisure activities.
The project officer Abigail Day have describe the assessment project for the prison library are now long overdue.
To help better the prison library implement regular library opening time, creation of prison library roles and funding to buy new resources as well as computer with library software to manage these resources.
I love this article in particular as it gives public the insight in to the prison library system and on how the time is moving and technology is so fast moving that even the prisoners themselfs need this to better educate them and to help prepare them when they are free to roam amongst society.

When Senior management at southern cross Universuty library put the idea of a Pich Club to the staff as part of an end of year event, the aim was simply to elicit new ideas from staff to give them the opportunity to sell thier idea and challege the way things were done. This have resulted in some excellent ideas being implemented at the library.
Staff are ask to present their idea and the person with the most vote have to under go a project proposal stating the objectives, outputs, cost and time frame which also provide opportunityto develop project management skills.
This idea gives the recognition of the person who's work is now being lauch on the SCU Library TV.
This article gives me the hope that librarian does not stop thinking out side of the square and that we are defenately here to stay.

Dr Nathan Hollier who is the manager of Monash University publishing group, wrote that the libraries now are actively create knowledge and disseminate this to the world around them. One concrete example of this is the trend towards the establishment of publishing operations within libraries.
The Australia National University, Sydney University, University of technology, University of Adelaide, Swinbourne University and Monash University all have library based university presses and more of this kind of press are on their way across Australia.
Library can be seen to be well positioned and have a strong motivation to take advantages of new oppertunities to published widely, deeply and comparitively cheaply, afforded by the dramatic development of digital technology in recent decade.
With the change in digital technology University Libraries are embraceing the digital paths to content deliveries which they refer to as electronic opperation.
This helps the press and the library to reach out and engage in new ways with readers and the wider community.

As a group discussion on web 2.0 I have decide to research FCL blog site and see what sort of social media site they offer for their patrons.
As of Feb 2011 there were over 15 million public blogs in existence. The meaning of a blog entries is to allowed people to discuss and share information.
I chose FCL blogs because i think the way the library communicate with their patron are very effective as the tool enable them to past on any information via youtube, live music and other social media site such as facebook, twitter, google plus and blog news.
FCL uses this tool in particular to communicate ideas of what is happening in the library e.g events, new items. commentary on sporting event(national event). Also allow feedback and two way communication between staff and library patrons.
The blog allowe you to past you tube footages such as Author talks and promotional tools and listeng to live music before purchasing tickets for concerts.

I love this article in particular because as a mother of 2 young girls it gives me the confidence to know that library organisations are still out there helping and promoting Authors and their books to to larger number of communuty.
The Author said "reading" is a simple developement for engaging in stories which i quite agree and love the fact that his book is available in other languages.

Richard Watson first wrote this article in his blog about Public library is needed in todays world which is surrounded by the ever growing of technology.
He was interested in how spaces and places change the way on how we think and how in particular new digital objects and enviromenta are starting to change old age attitudes and behaviour and on how we relate to one another.
He put a Timeline on library being extinct by 2025 but found that he was wrong and acknowledge that the library is'nt just about books but places where local people and idea come togather to exchange knowledge , wisdom, insight and most importantly human dignity.
I particularly love this articles becouse i agree that library in not just about books but a place where human came together to connect and share information and most of all library is a cultural curators of human history and idea.
